Mandarin Immersion Program

Braddock Drive Elementary Mandarin Immersion Program is designed to help students achieve academic success in both English and Mandarin and become bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate. Starting with two kindergarten classes in Fall 2016, the growing K-5 Mandarin program features the same design, curriculum, and resources as the highly successful Mandarin program at Broadway Elementary.

Braddock Drive Elementary Mandarin Immersion Program is a 50/50 model; instruction is 50% in English and 50% in Mandarin, with both classes of students (consisting of 24 students per class) sharing a Mandarin-speaking teacher and an English-speaking teacher. With full-time aides in both classes, teacher-student ratio is 12:1. Students spend half the day in Mandarin and half in English.

For English language arts, we use Readers and Writers Workshop within a balanced literacy framework. In Math, we use Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI). This is a child-centered, progressive program that focuses on differentiated instruction. Teachers and administrators are open-minded and constantly seek best practices on all topics. Parents actively support school staff by raising funds, volunteering classroom hours, and running additional programs.

After school enrichment classes augment daily curriculum with opportunities in sports, art, music, technology and computer programming, chess, and many other activities. Before and after school childcare is available from 6:36 a.m. until 6 p.m.

School tours will meet at 9 a.m. in the auditorium and last for two hours. Please reserve your spot on a tour here.
